A Bohemian is a person who lives and acts by a different set of conventional rules and practices than the average person. The word evokes the romance of a wanderer’s life. For all those non-conformists there is no more attractive way of expressing the inner life than through clothing.
It’s Saturday, so time to get casual and boho. The Bohemian style is as much about comfort as self-expression. Generally, clothing should not be tight and the fabrics used must allow your skin to “breathe”. Your clothes should be moulded to your lifestyle, not vice versa: in other words, do not wear anything that hinders movement and that you find to be uncomfortable. The only exception to this rule is evening dress.
I believe I’ve always had a bit of a bohemian/gypsy attitude towards life, although I think that having Bipolar and has impacted on my ability to live the life I wanted. I was forced to confirm, to fit in, but in doing so, I wasn’t able to express myself naturally, in any area of my life. It is like being a caged animal…
This is probably my favourite outfit in this challenge. More suited to my style, body shape and personality. Carefree, playful and a little bit of glam.
The tunic from Katies was a great find. I often go into these more mature stores (perception) to scout for items and I’m never disappointed. They have a range of boho style tops, pants and dresses that you can style to suit your vibe. I am proud of my legs, so I like to show them off, hence wearing this as a dress.
The cape is phenomenal as it’s like a scarf, blanket, wrap all in one – and I love the dark khaki.
The shoes, OMG the shoes. Saw them, fell instantly in love. These Bardot puppies are heaven on my pins, although I did find them tricky to walk in not having worn heels this high in so long.
Whenever I’m asked to describe my personal style, I usually say boho rock, and I think this outfit comes pretty close to the real me.
There are so many ways to interpret Boho, but I think keeping clear the definition should give you direction.
Take chances, have fun, let your clothes take you on a journey and make you feel things, challenge yourself and most importantly be confident!
