Last Thursday, before the sold out event on Saturday night, Carlie (the winner of the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival’s #stylemescff challenge, and I met up at Kawana Shopping World to help her spend her $500 Gift Voucher stylishly.

Carlie was mainly looking for smart casual, on-trend fashion for work that can mix and match as well as a stunning red carpet outfit for the event.

Personal styling is very different to the likes of editorial, look book and runway. As the stylist, you must be able to work with the clients’ body shape, fashion style as well as their daily lifestyle to ensure of a positive end result. The aim was to take  Carlie out of her comfort zone trying on fashions that normally she would stay away from, as well as teaching her how to integrate accessories into her wardrobe to get the most out of what she currently has i.e. scarves, hats etc…

It was a fun few hours with Carlie scoring some amazing bargains and quite a few new outfits. Here’s what she had to say…

Missy Robinson takes a blank canvas and creates a masterpiece! I have always loved fashion and dressed well but I recently had the chance to spend a day with Missy guiding me through my wardrobe and personal style to unveil THE REAL ME! Approaching 40 I had been feeling I had lost direction with my personal style and wasn’t sure where to go, what was age appropriate, what was appropriate for my lifestyle.

I had always been a solo shopper, preferring to be my own critic and never having an unbiased set of eyes offer an alternative to “I LOOK FAT IN THIS”!

I discovered that my (self diagnosed) flaws were features and that by embracing what others see as good curves I could dress in a way that was surprisingly flattering.

During my styling session with Missy I tried on garments that I would never have picked off the racks. She understands what works on different body shapes and was so helpful in suggesting ways to wear the current trends and classics. We worked with what I already have in my wardrobe and found some fun new items to add to my mix.

I am a more confident shopper now that will always avoid culottes and embrace the high waist belt.

I recommend a styling / shopping session with Missy Robinson at least once a year ? Once a season would be ideal!
